Taiwan
DRAM production showed positive growth in 2003
The production value of Taiwan's DRAM industry during the third quarter of 2003
reached NT$34.15 billion ($1 billion at NT$34:$1), up by 47.3 percent from the
second quarter of 2003, according to the latest survey conducted by the Industry
Technology Intelligence Service (ITIS) of Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The survey proved the popularity of 256Mb DRAMs with a production value of NT$30.03
billion ($883.24 million), a 45.8 percent increase over the second quarter of
2003.
On the other hand, the
report also showed the shipment of DDR models in the third quarter of 2003
that went down to 88.5 percent from 89.8 percent during the second quarter.
The slump was believed to be based from the increasing demand for niched SDRAMs.
Beginning October 2003,
256Mb DDR model are marketed at $4 each and is expected to remain steady.
